The efficacy and benefits of biblical fasting are enormous and cannot be over-emphasized. However, for the purpose of this blog, I'd like to highlight a few important points on the benefits of fasting
Fasting was an expected discipline in both the Old and New Testament eras. For example, Moses fasted at least two recorded forty day periods. Jesus fasted 40 days and reminded His followers to fast, "when you fast" not "if you fast".
Fasting and prayer can restore the loss of the "first love" for your Lord and result in a more intimate relationship with Christ. Fasting is a bilical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God Psalm 35:13, Ezra 8:21). King David said, "I humble myself through fasting"
Fasting enables the Holy spirit to reveal your true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance, and a transformed life. The Holy spirit will quicken the word of God in your heart and His truth will become more meaningful to you!
Fasting can transform your prayer life into a richer and more personal experience. It can result in a dynamic personal revival in your life and make you a channel of revival to others.
Fasting and prayer are the only discipline that fulfill the requirement of 2 Chronicles 7:14 "if my people, who are called by my name shall humble and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land".
If you fast, you will find yourself being humble as i did. you will discover more time to pray and seek God's face. and as e leads you to recognize and repent of unconfessed sin, you will experience special blessings from God

The Importance of Fasting - A guide on Fasting the right way
As christians, Fasting ought to be a major spiritual exercise in our lives. It is the most effective means by which the Holy Spirit can have a dramatic influence in our lives.
Throughout Scripture, personal experiences and examples of true ministers, I have observed that when God's people fast with the right motive (seeking God's face not His hand), with a contrite, broken and repentant heart, God will answer from heaven.
Fasting and prayer brings about total revival (a change in the direction of our country, the world at large and the manifestation of the Great Commission. Dynamic ability to cause changes can be made available by the Holy Spirit through Fasting and prayers
However, it is sad to note that Fasting has become one of the most neglected spiritual exercise in the church these days. In fact, it has become extremely difficult to find information on how to participate effectively in this life-changing experience.
My first experience with an extended fast was quite difficult because I could not get useful information on the nature of
a Biblical fast, how to begin, what to expect mentally, physically and spiritually, and how to end a fast. However, I would be assisting you to answer some practical questions about fasting and try to erase any concerns you may have about fasting.
My blog posts in the coming weeks would assist
you to learn several things on this topical issue such as
Why should we Fast???
How to observe a Safe Fast
Classifications of Fasts and Length of Fasts
How to prepare mentally, physically and spiritually for a fast
Managing your schedule while fasting etc
I have completed several 40-day fasts and I would love to share with you what I have learned and experienced which has aided me in fasting. Whether you hold a 1-day fast or an extended 40-day fast, I pray that you receive every blessing and benefits that accrues to fasting.
